LABlogs.com reports that the Los Angeles Fire Department has just launched a blogthat gives readers insight into the fires its personnel battle on a daily basis. Fire reports include details on the monetary damage estimates as well as the suspected cause of each incident. Each report contains sad and shocking details that make for riveting reading. On Monday, four companies of firefighters fought a fire in a small residential duplex at 114 East 75th Street in South Los
Angeles.

One elderly resident died from injuries and burns sustain in the fire.
The cause of this tragic blaze is attributed to careless
smoking. Investigators discovered that the duplex's front security screen door was doubled locked and that a rear door of the home to be nailed shut and similarly secured, limiting egress. There was no evidence of a functional smoke alarm within the residence.

We don't know what's scarier: careless smokers, burglars or slum landlords.
