Fearmongering Bush fingers LA

At a speech today George Bush dropped a bomb: that the US foiled a terrorist plot to attack the Library Tower in 2002.
Except he called it the "Liberty Tower." A slip of the tongue that makes his point all the more pointed, eh?
The Library Tower, aka the US Bank Building, is the tallest in Los Angeles and is pretty much in the middle of downtown LA. If it had been smacked into by an airplane commandeered by shoe bombers, it would have been terrifying, if not deadly, for those working inside and nearby. It would have devastated the area, and our downtown renaissance probably wouldn't have bloomed as it has in recent years.
But why now? Why are we hearing about it now? Could it be that the administration is trying to sideways-justify the NSA imbroglio? That kind of fearmongering worked when they took us to war in Iraq, even though they knew Iraq wasn't connected to terrorism.
Or is Martini Republic right in thinking it's all about the 2006 elections? Didn't we already have them sweep an election after sparking fear of terrorism? Can we possibly let them do it again?
We're not buying your schtick, Bushy. Other nations were instrumental in stopping the terrorist plot, not domestic agencies trampling the Constitution. Don't drag our city into your fearmongering ways.
