Fashion Weak

LA’s version of Fashion Week had its kick-off party last night at the Argyle Hotel on Sunset Boulevard. LAist was there to witness this Bacchanalian revery of quick introductions, free booze and frequently circulated snacks by the service all in black. Good luck trying the get a glass of white wine, though. It was vodka drinks by Vox, the liquor sponsor, or a big, big hassle. The purpose of the event, beyond being “seen” by big names and no-names in both the film/TV and fashion industry (not to mention Extra’s cameras—see picture above), was a book signing for celebrity and fashion nightlife photographer Patrick McMullan’s book In Tents . The book launch aspect of the evening seemed secondary, though, to displays of pervasive and extreme representations of self. But this was a fashion event, after all.
And perhaps LAist was simply ill-equipped for this type of gathering overlooking the city. Everyone was seemingly unaware of the myriad subtleties peppering the vastness below. Was it the decadence going on behind us that caused our stomach to turn? Or was it the egg rolls and that fourth Cape Cod?
Regardless, Fashion Week has begun.
