Congress has cut federal funding for public media — a $3.4 million loss for LAist. We count on readers like you to protect our nonprofit newsroom. Become a monthly member and sustain local journalism.

Starting May 12, 21 airlines will shift terminals at LAX to make way for Delta Airlines' move to terminals 2 and 3. During the shift, Delta will likely operate out of terminals 2, 3, 5, and 6. In a statement from Los Angeles World Airports, which runs LAX, the move comes from Delta's plan to invest $1.9 billion in terminal renovations in order to modernize the space and connect its LAX hub to the Tom Bradley International Terminal.

The moves will occur at night and in the early morning of May 12, 14, and 16. A total of 28 airlines will be impacted by the shifts. This type of terminal shuffle has not happened at a modern airport, but according to LAWA, "Delta and the LAWA team
have been planning and preparing for months to ensure a smooth transition." Officials urge travelers to allow extra time for their flights in the coming weeks in order to avoid ending up at the wrong gate. LAX will add 500 signs and extra staff and shuttles to help guide people as well, according to Curbed.

Sean Burton, president of the Board of Airport Commissioners, believes the transition will allow for a modernized and more efficient experience for travelers coming in and out of LAX, according to NBC. "We want travelers to have access to all of the terminals while undergoing security screening only one time," Burton said, adding how it "means less delays, that means less pollution, that means less noise, and a better experience for our passengers."

See below for full details of where each airline will end up.
