It feels like Beck has been missing for a few years now—he hasn't released an album since 2008's Modern Guilt. But with the imminent release of a new single on Jack White's label, he played his first real show in years last night at the Santa Barbara Bowl—and the highlight of the night came with the final song of the night, when Beck's 8-year-old son Cosimo danced his butt off to "E-Pro." Beck played a 21-song set with no new songs, and a particular emphasis on songs from Odelay and Sea Changes—you can see the full setlist here. Beck has of course also kept busy in the last four years by producing other people's records (including Stephen Malkmus, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Thurston Moore) and contributing songs to random soundtracks.
Hopefully, we'll see even more new material from Beck in later 2012—after all, he told Pitchfork in 2010 that he already had one record done (it had been titled Rococo), and longtime bassist Justin Meldal-Johnsen tweeted earlier this year that they had been working on new-new material: "In the lab working on @Beck material that would blow yr mind. Don't ask me when/how...could be just for us to enjoy, for all I know! :)"
