Shine Through is exactly what happened with Aloe Blacc and his latest album. Not being a stranger of voyaging through the realms of multi-genre musical creations, most of the tracks pick up distinct personalities that add to the already captivating voice of Aloe Blacc.

Blacc started his musical career as an emcee in the group Emanon, back in 1995. Since then he has had several solo experiences as a rapper, singer, and instrumentalist. Although he now calls the label Stones Throw home and contributes mostly to the soul and hip hop world, his background in other genres becomes evident in his soulful creations.

Being perhaps the best track on the album, “I’m Beautiful” adds an inspiring and appropriate closure to the album. Unlike other cuts off of the album, “I’m Beautiful” is like a self pep talk summed up in a little over three minutes. Blacc’s approach to seductive love songs is also not too shabby. “Arrive” has a warm, almost whispery, “come hither” sexiness to its delivery, while the other love songs take a different sensual approach. Not straying far from the rhythmic theme of the album, the song “Want Me” integrates rap, R&B, and even a touch of electronica. Overall, Shine Through has a feel-good ambiance that showcases Aloe Blacc’s talent and captures the essence of his musical experiences.
