Richard Donner Says He's Making 'Goonies' Sequel, Fulfills Our Childhood Dreams
Director Richard Donner has said a sequel to The Goonies is in the works.
Donner told photographers he was making a sequel to his 1985 family film while signing autographs in Beverly Hills, TMZ reports. When asked if Donner, who directed the original Superman and Superman II films, would do another superhero movie, this was his response:
“If you call Goonies a comic book—we’re doing a sequel,” Donner said.
Serious talks of a sequel date back to the mid-2000s, but they’ve always been quieted by some of the film’s stars, like Cory Feldman, who said there was no Goonies sequel would happen as of 2008. Still, Donner has consistently shown interest in doing a sequel, and when asked if it would include the old stars, like Sean Astin and Josh Brolin, he said: “Hopefully all of them.”
We’ve gotten our hopes up before, but this comes straight from the director’s mouth. “This is our time,” you guys.
