Prized Design and Eats
Today is a proud day for the local architecture community, as well as for certain restaurateurs whose pioneering aesthetic sensibilities have been rewarded in unforeseen ways. Following this morning's announcement, having a meal at Kate Mantilini or Angeli means dining in Pritzker Prize-winning splendor. (Though of a more institutional nature, other LA locations where this unique distinction applies include the eating options at the Getty and Cathedral downtown.)
These spaces have maintained their appeal among loyal clientele for twenty-plus years, thanks in part to Thom Mayne's designs which have essentially remained untouched. No small feat, considering most 1980s-era interior architecture and design hasn't fared quite so well.
