PolaroidParty: One Night Only Gallery Show of a Near-Extinct Art
Some of us remember Polaroid as being a popular trend in photography long before the disposable, digital, and cellphone took over as means of memory-making. Of course, some see Polaroid as the dinosaur reborn as an Urban Outfitters kind of novelty, a fun tech app you can apply to digital images to make them "look old," or as a hobbyist's tool for the photographer.
No matter how you view Polaroid pictures (feel free to start singing that part of Outkast's "Hey Ya" anytime now) the fact remains that there's only so much of its film left to be had, which is why ISM: a community project is hosting PolaroidPartyLA, celebrating instant film and the Polaroid 600 Series with a special, one night only, gallery exhibition and limited edition book showcasing the Polaroid work of over 200 professional and amateur photographers from around the world.
The event and its 600 selected images will hit the walls of Los Angeles on Saturday January 9th at the Copro Gallery at Bergamot Station. It's also not too late yet to have your image(s) included; they're accepting submissions until January 6th (info about this and answers to other FAQs here). In the meantime, we combed our LAist Featured Photos pool for some Polaroid images--or those made to look like Polaroid--to get us all in the mood.
