There's plenty to do in L.A. tonight. Celebrate Julia Child's 100th birthday with a cocktail party, taste some island brews at the Surly Goat, or watch a Belgian film while eating Belgian waffles. Learn some crafts at Space 15 Twenty, attend a book signing and discussion at Skylight Books, or enjoy happy hour in downtown Culver City. Read on for details.

The Surly Goat in West Hollywood is hosting a Surly Maui Night tonight, featuring karaoke and beers brewed in Hawaii. Enjoy five varieties of Maui Brewing Co. brews, including Coconut Porter, La Perouse White, and Pumpkin Sobrehumano Palena 'Ole. 6pm. Karaoke at 10pm.

The Aero Theatre continues its "Grit and Whimsy III: The Best of Recent Belgian Cinema" series tonight with "High Heels, Low Tide," a film that follows a group of best friends on a getaway. A Belgian beer reception will follow the screening of the English-subtitled film, and Crispy Truck will sell Belgian waffles with sweet or savory toppings, including Nutella, Speculoos, and ham and Swiss. 7:30pm. $11. ($9 for students and seniors, $7 for Cinematheque members.)

Pasadena, the hometown of Julia Child, celebrates the 100th birthday of the culinary queen with a citywide cocktail party. Participating restaurants, including Magnolia Lounge, Noir Food and Wine, and Cafe Bizou, will perform a simultaneous toast to Child at 7pm. Toro Sushi and 300 Pasadena will hold a Julia Child costume contest, and POP Champagne and Dessert Bar and Vertical Wine Bistro will offer a special Julia Child menu. The event will also kick off Pasadena's SIP-tember Cocktail Bracket Challenge, a local cocktail competition in which tasters can vote for their favorite drink online.

Space 15 Twenty's PUR Vintage teaches a class on how to make a T-shirt rag rug using shirts and a hula hoop. Materials will be provided. 5pm. $15. RSVP here.

Downtown Culver City's monthly Third Wednesday is back, this time to invite attendees to a "Stay and Play" staycation with tropical drinks and desserts. Kay 'N Dave's Cantina will offer free samples of Oaxacan vanilla cookies as well as Oaxacan street food and a buy 2 get 1 free margarita special, and Akasha will offer free rum punch samples and 1/2 off bottles of wine. Ryan Holiday, a media strategist and the current director of marketing at American Apparel, discusses and signs his book Trust Me, I'm Lying: Confessions of a Media Manipulator at Book Soup. Holiday reveals strategies used in modern media. 7pm. The event is free, but you must purchase a copy for $26.95 to get it signed.
