LAst Laugh: This Week in Haiti Relief Comedy

This week we're doing something a little different. With the tragic events that have recently unfolded in Haiti, there's been an amazing outpouring from entertainers of all kinds, and comedians are certainly no exception. So, in the interest of mobilizing you folks out there who need a little motivation to donate, here's a list of shows that will benefit you and Haiti at the same time. Like Mark Vonnegut said to his humanist father, Kurt Vonnegut: "We are here to help each other get through this thing, whatever it is."
If you know of any more comedy shows for the Haiti cause, please post them in the comments section. Thanks a million.
MONDAY 1/25
Love & Haiti, 9p Largo. Some great headliners (Sarah Silverman and Aziz Ansari are rumored) doing stand up, maybe some characters, anything they can to raise money.
TUESDAY 1/26
Comedy Death Ray, 8:30p UCB. Not only is this always an amazing show, UCB is accepting donations all week so give, give, give!
WEDNESDAY 1/27
Improv Friends Help Haiti, 8p ComedySportzLA. A menagerie of performers are getting together and doing whatever the F they want, for a good cause. There’s even a raffle!
THURSDAY 1/28
Cookin’ With Gas, 8p Groundlings. Some of the best alumni are coming back to help raise money for Haiti.
FRIDAY 1/29
Opening Night: Improvised Musical, 9p iO West. All week, iO is accepting donations before and after each and every show, so why not make it out to a really awesome one, then give some cash.
SATURDAY 1/30
Adam Carolla Podcast, 7:30p Hollywood Improv. This is unconfirmed, but word is Carolla will be donating some of the cash from his live shows at the Improv to Haiti.
SUNDAY 1/31
Mercycat, 7:30p UCB. Better than the usual ASSSSCAT, this show will forward its proceeds on to Mercy Corps and is sure to feature a line up worthy of the donation price tag.
L.A. Comics for Haiti, 8p J Spot Comedy Club. Mark Curry is hosting this night of stand up for the cause.
As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.
Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.
We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.
No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.
Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.
Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
