LAst Laugh: This Week in Comedy
Rawr! Photo via eviloars on LAist flickr.
This must be storytelling week, because The Moth, Mortified, Dirty Laundry and Sit N' Spin are all taking place within a few days of each other. You can at least make one of those, right? Thankfully, there's also a heaping helping of improv and stand up to round out the days and make this a fantastic week of comedy.
If you're interested in trying to get listed here, let me know.
MONDAY 4/19
Tiger Lily, 8p Hollywood Studio Bar & Grill. This show just keeps on getting bigger. Nick Thune, TJ Miller, Jason Nash, and Matt Dwyer will all be around.
Crash Test, 11p UCB. Reservations are sold out, but you can sign up on the guest list for this great sketch / stand up showcase, with TJ Miller, Natasha Leggero, and Ron Babcock.
TUESDAY 4/20
The Moth, 7:30p El Cid. True stories of Spring over at El Cid.
TNT, 9p Sierra Stage. TNT puts up some of the best indie improv groups in town, and this month they’ve got UCB March Madness Tournament finalists Hip Hop Penguin in residency. Do not miss this sh*t.
WEDNESDAY 4/21
Mortified, 8p King King. Storytelling rarely gets any better than Mortified, where folks take stories from their childhood and put them on stage.
Bert Kreischer, 8p Irvine Improv. Former full-time partier turned stand up, Bert has been doing his thing with some success for a while now.
THURSDAY 4/22
Sit N’ Spin, 8p Comedy Central Stage. Greg Proops and a host of others tell great stories.
Dirty Laundry, 9:30p UCB. Molly Prather and Jim Woods lead this nasty storytelling show that gives the audience a glimpse of your unmentionables. This month: stories on Amsterdam.
FRIDAY 4/23
Iliza Shlesinger, 8p Hollywood Improv. Last Comic Standing winner and all-around funny comic Shlesinger is only doing one show, so make it a priority.
Christopher Titus, 10p Irvine Improv. Titus is in the OC all weekend, but it’s safe to say the late night shows are the ones you’ll want to go to.
SATURDAY 4/24
Jo Koy, 9:30p Comedy & Magic Club. Jo Koy is doing two Saturday shows (the first being 6:45).
Adam Carolla Podcast, 9:30p Hollywood Improv. Carolla, Alanna Ubach, Ralph Garman and LAist favorite David Koechner all step on stage at the Improv.
SUNDAY 4/25
Blind Start Fundraiser, 1:30p Brea Improv. Head out to Brea for a chance to help raise money for the visually impaired.
The Ginger Man / Moon County, 8p iO West. Two great sketch teams collide in one hourlong explosion of comedy.
As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.
Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.
We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.
No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.
Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.
Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
