LAst Laugh: This Week in Comedy
Big Dog star Charlie Sanders is all over town this week. Photo courtest FunnyOrDie.
This week is extra-special, because the LA Comedy Shorts Film Festival kicks off on Thursday at the Downtown Independent. In addition, there's some great storytelling shows, and iO West is dedicating Sunday to the absolute madness that is sure to be the Wicked Awesome Show night.
If you're interested in getting in touch with this writer about listings, please shoot me an email here.
MONDAY 4/12
Benson Interruption, 9p Largo. Doug Benson interrupts your favorite comedians during their set.
Stripped Stories, 11p UCB. Charlie Sanders, DC Pierson, and Kimmy Gatewood get on stage to share some of their most intimate (and embarrassing) stories.
TUESDAY 4/13
Meat, Prey, Lust, 8p Comedy Central Stage. Hayley Terris is only one woman, but she’s got a lot of stories to tell you.
When Comics Invade, 8p Ice House. A stand up showcase to benefit TheACY.org, helping grieving families.
WEDNESDAY 4/14
The Accidental Bisexual, 8p Comedy Central Stage. The wonderfully talented Melinda Hill is doing a free one woman show at Comedy Central Stage. Highly recommended.
Darren Carter, 8p Comedy & Magic Club. Darren is a familiar-faced funny man who’s showing up at C&M for one night only.
THURSDAY 4/15
LA Comedy Shorts Fest, 7:30p Downtown Independent. The festival kicks off tonight, with great short comedy films by Funny Or Die and a ton of other entrants. Of particular note: Big Dog.
Hill Jones, 11p iO West. Two man improv that is better than whatever you’d be doing otherwise.
FRIDAY 4/16
Sarah Silverman & Friends, 9p Largo. Sarah is doing her monthly Largo show, and you know a who’s-who of the usual great headliners.
Eddie Griffin, 10:30p Ontario Improv. Who the F knows what will happen when Eddie takes over the Ontario Improv for the weekend. Here’s to hoping he fake-crashes another car.
SATURDAY 4/17
Jon Reep, 7:30p Improv. The ‘That thing gotta Hemi’ guy (and popular stand up) is doing a couple of shows down on Melrose this weekend.
Seth & Ed’s Puppet Talk Show, 10p UCB. It doesn’t get better than two comedy greats swapping stories and interviewing celebrities while pretending to be puppets.
SUNDAY 4/18
Carolla Podcast, 7p Irvine Improv. Adam Carolla is in Irvine all weekend, so this show is your last chance to catch a live version of the podcast.
Black Out, 10p iO West. Part of the Wicked Awesome Show night at iO West, the Black Out show challenges some of iO’s finest sketch writers to come up with lightening fast sketches, so fast and so funny you won’t have time to stop laughing.
As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.
Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.
We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.
No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.
Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.
Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
