LAst Laugh: This Week in Comedy
Well, hello there. Photo by ricardodiaz via LAist Flickr.
There are a few benefit shows this week that seem like must-sees, from Breast Cancer Be Trippin' to Laugh Night to benefit Art Share LA. Both have fantastic line ups that are worthy of the crowds they're sure to bring. Probably the best show of the week, though, is CraigsLOST and the Apple Sisters at UCB. On any night, either one of these shows is worth a mention, but together they're a powerhouse of comedy that cannot be stopped. For serious.
Hit me up to get a mention on any show you're interested in. Thanks!
MONDAY 2.22
The Armando Show, 9p iO West. Andy Richter! Guys! ANDY RICHTER is supplying the stories that lead to fantastic improv over at iO West.
The Faculty Show, 11p Westside Comedy. The teachers let their comedy do the talking for a change in this faculty improv show out in Santa Monica. FOR FREE.
TUESDAY 2.23
Rooftop Standup Comedy, 8p Spring Town Lofts. This awesome semi-regular stand up show takes place on the rooftops of downtown Los Angeles. What better way to spend an evening? This month includes Erin Foley, Sean Green, Lizzy Cooperman, and Hot Waffles.
Benson Interruption, 9p Largo. Adam Carolla takes the stage to get shot down by Benson in hilarious fashion.
WEDNESDAY 2.24
Breast Cancer Be Trippin’, 9p National Comedy Theatre. Sarah Silverman and Garfunkel & Oates headline this fantastic comedy benefit. Worth every penny.
CraigsLOST / The Apple Sisters, 8p UCB. Two absolutely amazing sketch shows back to back?! If you’re not going to this, you’re an idiot. I’ll be there. Let’s be best friends.
THURSDAY 2.25
Comedy Campfire, 8p Improv Lab. Next Door to the Improv on Melrose, Ian Harvie runs an eclectic show of comics, sketch groups, and musicians that ends in a campfire circle with the audience helping to craft new material on the spot.
Laugh Night, 8p Art Share. Downtown comedy is experiencing a recent uptick, and LAist is all over it. Donald Glover, Greg Behrendt, and James Adomian lend themselves to this stand up show to benefit Art Share LA. Oh, and it’s presented by the amazing Sound of Young America podcast.
FRIDAY 2.26
Owen Benjamin, 8p Hollywood Improv. Owen is a fantastic stand up and musician who will absolutely keep you rolling all night. On not in a drug way or anything.
The Paul F. Tompkins Show, 8:30p Largo. PFT always brings great known comedy friends along with him for this monthly ride.
SATURDAY 2.27
Heath Hyche, 8:30p Ice House. Longtime stand up Hyche is out in Pasadena all weekend.
Slave Leia, 10:30p iO West Andy Dick Black Box. This all girl improv team is currently the resident TNT team, and seriously hysterical. And don’t act like you don’t love the name.
SUNDAY 2.28
Bill Bellamy, 7p Irvine Improv. Bellamy is here all weekend, but why not go for a casual stroll down to Irvine to check him out on Sunday? Sounds like fun to me.
Shitty Jobs, 11p UCB. These guys haven’t gone anywhere, and it’s the grassroots audiences at 11p on a Sunday that keep it alive. Come support some of the better improv you’ll find.
As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.
Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.
We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.
No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.
Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.
Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
