LAst Laugh: This Week in Comedy

Stories like these are only possible with your help!

MONDAY 5/18The Smokes, 7p UCB. These improv veterans do two different long-form improv forms every single week, and every time they are fucking hilarious. An absolute can’t-miss for anyone seriously interested in long form improvisation.

You Say Tomato, I Say Shut Up, 8p Comedy Central Stage. Based on excerpts from the upcoming book of the same name, Annabelle Gurwitch and Jeff Kahn tell tales of what it takes to be married. Apparently, it’s a lot.

TUESDAY 5/19

Conservative Comedy, 8p Laugh Factory. Please oh please let this be real. If Evan Sayet really does bring conservative humor (is there such a thing?) to the stage, I will be first in line. It’d be like paying to discover plutonium.

Skyler Stone & Friends, 10p The Improv. Harland Williams, Chris Titus, Nick Thune, Nick Kroll. Definitely a stand up show worth checking out.

WEDNESDAY 5/20

CollegeHumor.com’s Comedy Juice, 10p The Improv. A great show that brings in lots of talent. This week it’s Eric B, Louis Katz, Bobby Lee and The Office’s BJ Novak.

Local 132 vs. Johnny Astronaut, 11p iO West. The iO Harold Competition moves forward with LAist faves Local 132 pushing the envelope against Johnny Astronaut. Get there at 9p to see stand out team USS Rock N Roll do what they do, too.

THURSDAY 5/21

Aries Spears, 8p Ice House. One of the most recognizable faces to come out of MadTV, Aries is a legitimately funny comic. This show should be great.

Ronna & Beverly, 9:30p UCB. A great character show about two middle-aged Jewish single ladies. With guests for the evening: Matthew Perry and Bai Ling! How odd, yet probably hilarious.

FRIDAY 5/22

Bill Belamy, 8p Laugh Factory. You know Belamy. I imagine the face is a little less smooth, but the game he spits is just as smooth as ever.

Dave Attell, 8p Comedy & Magic Club. Dave is fucking hilarious, and this show should be a top priority. You know him from Insomniac and tons of other stuff, now go see him kill on stage.

SATURDAY 5/23

Sarah Silverman & Friends, 8:30p Largo. Tig Notaro, Sarah Silverman, Megan Mullally and anyone else willing to show up to do some stand up (musical guest to be named later).

Spanky, 8p Ice House. Seriously, I used to watch Spanky while growing up in Northern New York like a decade ago, so this guy gets props for putting up with my shithole town in the middle of nowhere, and getting a prime spot on a great LA stage. Doesn’t hurt that he’s actually funny. Go enjoy this show.

SUNDAY 5/24

Sketch Cage Match, 8p iO West. Reigning champs Associates of Awesome are 10-0 and are now guaranteed a prime time slot on the iO mainstage. But more importantly, will they ever be derailed in their cage match career?

Dirtiest Sketch in LA, Midnight UCB. This show is so many things, not the least of which is nasty, skanky, dirty, gross, and hilarious. If you can stand the late time slot, I highly recommend it.
