LAst Laugh: This Week in Comedy
Safety first, kids. Photo courtesy Brett Morris/LAist.
The Mike Birbiglia one man show hits Largo on Tuesday and Wednesday, but UCB has CDR Sketch with Casey Wilson on Tuesday night too, so choose wisely. Help out the Midnight Mission on Sunday, see the USS Rock N' Roll at the Westside Eclectic, or spend tonight at UCB with Flap Jackson and Sentimental Lady, then stick around for the Dirty Laundry show at 11. As always hit me up if you want to hype a show you know about.
MONDAY 4/13
The Armando Show, 9p iO West. John Lehr from the underrated 10 Items Or Less (they improvise the show in an ACTUAL GROCERY STORE) drops in to share some stories that’ll inspire some improv.
Dirty Laundry, 11p UCB. Jim Woods and LAist fave Molly Prather team up with some storytellers to get real. And more often than not, real dirty. Guests this week include Suzi Barrett of Sentimental Lady and Sean Conroy.
TUESDAY 4/14
Running on Fumes, 8p Elephant Stageworks. Check out some great young sketch comedy at a theatre you might not have been to yet. That simple.
CDR Sketch, 11p UCB. Casey Wilson, Nick Kroll, The Walsh Brothers... be SURE to catch this great sketch show! It’s simply amazing, week in and week out.
WEDNESDAY 4/15
Mike Birbiglia: Sleepwalking, 8p Largo. The absolutely great stand up comic Mike Birbiglia takes his well-received one man show to Largo. This is the last chance to see this in LA, so be sure to make the most of it.
U.S.S. Rock N’ Roll, 10:30p Westside Eclectic. This amazing improv team from iO West takes their great show across town to the hidden gem that is the Westside Eclectic in Santa Monica.
THURSDAY 4/16
Writers of Chelsea Lately, 8p The Improv. The crew of the hilarious Chelsea Lately talk / celeb bash show take their comedy to The Improv. Man, how cute is Jen Kirkman?!
Sit N’ Spin, 8p Comedy Central Stage. Man, this show deserves hyping every time it comes around. So funny, so honest.
FRIDAY 4/17
Orny Adams / Jen Kober, 8:30p Ice House. Known commodity Adams takes the stage with the always very funny Jen Kober. One of the only reasons to get out to Pasadena . OH I SAID IT.
Roberto Alomar / Josh & Tamra Show, 11p iO West. Obviously, Roberto Alomar does long form improv right, but be sure to check out the Josh & Tamra Show, the long-running improv puppet show from NYC.
SATURDAY 4/18
Chris Hardwick, 7:30p The Improv. Former heartthrob and current funnyman Hardwick takes his stand up show to the Improv.
The Bar Show, 10p Magicopolis. Magic and comedy collide in this crazy show at Magicopolis in Santa Monica. The talent is right there, serving you drinks and making you laugh, and then pulling birds out of places you don’t want to think about.
SUNDAY 4/19
I Love a Good Story, 4p Westside Eclectic. Get out early for a show in Santa Monica, featuring storytellers and writers and all sorts of oddballs looking to get in front of an audience. Word on the street is, they’ve got SNACKS!
Acme Comedy Cares, 8p Acme. Back again, this time with awesome guest host Neil Flynn (Beer Shark Mice, Scrubs). This show is free with a $3 donation to the Midnight Mission.
As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.
Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.
We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.
No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.
Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.
Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
