LAst Laugh: This Week in Comedy
Does Scientology honor this? SNAP! Photo by dopey
Largo at the Coronet, on La Cienega, is absolutely killing it this week. The Reno 911! benefit show is an absolute must, and CDR at UCB should be it's usual long-as-hell-but-also-gut-busting self. Naked Babies on Thursday should prove to be a great improv show from a lot of top names, and The Improv has the Sklars on Saturday. Hot DAMN folks. This recession can go to hell. MONDAY 3/30
Armando Show, 9p iO West. Stand out Joe Lo Truglio shares some surely great stories that inspire equally impressive improv.
All Woman Comedy, 8p HaHa Cafe. All girl stand up in the Valley? Sure.
TUESDAY 3/31
Carol Leifer / Garry Shandling, 7:30p Writer’s Guild Theatre. Stand up comedian Leifer sits down with Shandling for a night that should be absolutely awesome.
Comedy Death-Ray, 8:30p UCB. Is your comedy boner as big as ours for David Koechner? Hopefully. Make this show a priority then.
WEDNESDAY 4/1
Reno 911! Benefit Show, 8p Largo. HOLY FUCK WHY AREN’T YOU AT THIS ALREADY?! Every member of Reno 911! PLUS Nick Swardson, Besser, Daly, Helms, Huebel, Rainn Wilson, and so many others your head should have fallen off by now. They’re raising money for Planting Peace, that helps to provide much-needed medications to the children of Haiti. GO GO GO GO GO TO THIS.
The Apple Sisters, 11p UCB. The girls pull out all the stops for their April Fools show, in this fake old timey radio format.
THURSDAY 4/2
Kirk Fox, 8p Comedy & Magic Club. The 2007 Aspen winner and Comedy Central Presents pretty-boy (check out that mustache!) takes his shit to the beach.
Naked Babies, 9:30p UCB. Rob Corddry, Seth Morris, and Brian Huskey (yes, he’s from those commercials) get the band back together for some seriously funny improv.
FRIDAY 4/3
Friday Write Club, 8p iO West. Brand new sketch comedy from some of the iO West minds.
Darren Carter / Harry Basil, 8:30p The Ice House. I don’t know what Chris Titus could possibly have going on that makes him unavailable for his own show at The Ice House, but comedy connoisseurs are winning here. Carter and Basil are an upgrade.
SATURDAY 4/4
The Sklar Brothers, 7:30p The Improv. You don’t need me to tell you how funny these two are. You’ve seen them all over town and all over TV, so why not check them out again? It’s guaranteed to be funny.
Eugene Merman / John Wesley Harding, 9p Largo. Patton Oswalt will also be there to make sure this stand up spot kicks as much ass as we all believe it should.
SUNDAY 4/5
Comedy for a Cure, 5p Boulevard3. Celebs (Teri Hatcher...Lance Bass?...) combine with comics for a great cause, the Tuberculosis Sclerosis Alliance. The name alone is worth a donation.
Jay Leno, 7p Comedy & Magic Club. If you haven’t been in a while, go check out the chin. Maybe he’s got some material on screwing over Conan OHNOHEDIDN’T!!!! Oh, yes, I did.
As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.
Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.
We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.
No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.
Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.
Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
