LAist Film Calendar 08/04-08/07: Seth Green at the New Beverly

Seth Green returns to the New Beverly for a weekend-long guestival! The Robot Chicken guru pairs pulp & circumstance Thursday with a screening of the car-chase classic Smokey and the Bandit & Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven. Friday & Saturday, Seth's showing Steve Martin starrer Parenthood & Terry Gilliam's The Fisher King. The Kids in the Hall conquer Saturday's midnight slot with their feature-length Brain Candy, while Sunday sports a double dose of Danny DeVito courtesy of The Zucker Brothers' Ruthless People & DeVito-directed War of the Roses.
Seth will appear live tonight to kick off the series, but beyond that it isn't clear which shows he'll be attending. Follow @NewBeverly & @SethGreen on Twitter for guest updates!
For a darker shade of green, check out If A Tree Falls, playing one week only at the Downtown Independent. The documentary tracks eco-terrorist group Earth Liberation Front & the fall-out when its largest cell was cracked in 2005. Co-directors Marshall Curry (Racing Dreams) & Sam Cullman (cinematographer, King Corn) gained unprecedented access to ELF's former members, their own footage of their attacks & the team that put them behind bars. Rather than glorify the group or vilify its "elves", they ask what causes someone to turn from impassioned activist to violent extremist. It's the question of our era, as the public splinters & zealots for all causes rise.
