Dodgers Prove Mortal, Can't Win Them All
At least it wasn't the 16-1 slaughter that the Dodgers endured on Friday, but the 9-5 loss against the Colorado Rockies isn't exactly a morale lifter either. Again it was Chris Capuano on the mound who only made it through 4 1/3 innings giving up six runs, five of them earned. Brandon League also made an appearance and didn't fail to disappoint giving up two earned runs in the 1/3 inning he pitched.
But there were positives. Matt Kemp hit a homer in consecutive games for the first time this season. Andre Ethier had a two-hit game, Hanley Ramirez extended his career-high hit streak to 15 games, Yasiel Puig continued to hit.
It just didn't add up to a win.
The Dodgers remain in third place in the division and trail the first-place Arizona Diamondbacks team by 3 1/2 games. The Dodgers head over to San Francisco for a four-game weekend series against the Giants.
One thing I noticed during the broadcast. Fox Sports wanted to show that they are patriotic folks, so they altered their scoring bug as seen below.
See the problem? The only countries that have a white star on a red background are Togo, Turkey and Singapore. None of their independence days or national days of celebration are in the month of July. Or maybe Fox had a marketing deal with Macy's.
As we sit and celebrate our country's independence by eating pork by-products and blowing shit up, all baseball teams have started the second half of their 162-game schedules. As a part of the Internet Baseball Writers Association of America we all voted for our midseason awards.
