Bush's Brain Cuts-and-Runs in Shame - Who's Next?

Congress has cut federal funding for public media — a $3.4 million loss for LAist. We count on readers like you to protect our nonprofit newsroom. Become a monthly member and sustain local journalism.

The President's right-hand man, Karl Rove, the mastermind behind most of the Republican dirty tricks that got Bush in office twice, as well as the puppetmaster behind so many of the scandals that the GOP is still smarting from, is tapping out early.

By the hair of his chinny chin chins he escaped having to testify under oath when his boys got caught outting a CIA agent in the middle of a war because they were upset about a column in the newspaper that her husband wrote.

As Rove cuts and runs, it's fascinating to how the GOP columnists and bloggers try to spin this ultimate surrender.

By leaving, Rove could be doing his last bit of service to the president: If it’s a successful last year, the myth of “Bush’s brain” may be laid to rest. - Kathryn Jean Lopez, National Review's The Corner

This is why you don't put Baby in The Corner. Cuz you're dreaming, baby. The President had both houses of the Congress, the Courts, a lot of the US, and then the world's support right after 9/11and the only thing he's been successful at is earning the crown of the Worst President Ever.

His departure will no doubt be the subject of celebration for the president’s most vociferous critics, but I think they’ll wind up missing him more than the president’s supporters. They won’t have Rove to kick around any more, and after the shock wears off, it will become apparent how silly all the Rove-kicking was from the beginning. - Captain's Quarters

Who needs Rove to kick around any more when you have oh so many more scoundrels, liars, and failures left? If kicking around is your thing, there is the Attorney General, who could be the worst liar in the entire administration and the biggest joke. He gets caught at everything that he tries to cover up and his entire staff has bailed out, tries to avoid testifying, and when they do they usually say what everyone knows - that Alberto Gonzales is such a rube that he makes W look like a damn genius... which is probably the only reason the president keeps him around. That, and the fact that he is a beautiful red herring in terms of impeachment, as those who are thirsty for a smooth forced-resignation are more likely to waste their time booting the AG out than the #1 and #2.

But that's low-hanging fruit compared to the ass kicking you could deliver upon the Vice President, the most hated man in Washington, and the gentleman who in 1994, during the Clinton administration, said in the video above that trying to remove Saddam would create a quagmire in Iraq... and pretty much everything that has happened since we invaded them after 9/11.

It will be interesting to see what Dick Cheney is remembered more for in the future - being re-elected thanks to Rove's brilliant, last-minute attack on Gay Marriage, which freaked out middle America and had them rushing to the polls to save the sanctity of marriage, a push that was totally supported by the VP even though he has a daughter who is a lesbian. Or for the time he went hunting for quail and shot a senior citizen in the face while drunk and totally got away with it.

Or those who desire to kick someone around could simply take aim at the President's behind, which has the biggest bullseye of all. For years now the GOP has had their fun trying to denigrate Bill Clinton's overwhelmingly successful administration over the One fuckup he made.

Meanwhile if it's Presidential target practice that you're after, just load up on any of these, actual serious George Bush blunders and scandals that Rove refuses to provide cover over:

His involvement in the Plame affair, where the fuck are the WMDs, after all these years and still no proof of a relationship between Saddam Hussein and al-Qaeda, and whaddup with the Niger uranium forgeries, cant forget the Downing Street memo, Abu Ghraib & rendition - whoops, domestic spying, UN spying, BushCo paying off journalists in the US and abroad, not to mention Katrina, Walter Reed, Dubai Ports, Halliburton, Pat Tillman, Heck of a Job Brownie, Harriet Myers, Signing Statements, Recess Appointments, and the Commutation of Scooter Libby's sentence, biggest surplus ever turned into the biggest deficit ever, highest prices for gasoline ever while his buddies the oil companies announce their largest profits ever.

For starters.

Although one of the biggest rats have left the sinking ship there are plenty to pick off if that's your thing. So it's more like one down, 400 to go.
