Bitter:Sweet @ Hear Music, 10/24/07

Starbucks is currently in the midst of doing a free Song of the Day promotion (see the complete list of 37 songs here), and last night, Hear Music, located on the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, hosted an in-store performance by the LA-based indie Bitter:Sweet (MySpace) since their song "Heaven (Nicola Conte Remix)" was yesterday's giveaway.
I've admittedly been a fan of Bitter:Sweet since their performance a year and a half ago at a company I used to work at, and couldn't resist the opportunity to see them again (their last show in town was in July headlining at The El Rey Theatre). Obvious comparisons for the duo of Shana Halligan and Kiran Shahani (who reportedly first met through Craigslist) include Portishead and Goldfrapp, and they've described their sound as "Portishead meets Zero 7 with a bit of Serge Gainsbourg and Everything But The Girl mixed in for good measure." If you've never heard them before, I recommend sampling the following songs from Bitter:Sweet's debut album The Mating Game: "Don't Forget To Breathe," "The Mating Game," and "Dirty Laundry."
As for upcoming in-stores at Hear Music, they include Greyboy on Thursday the 25th (today) and Federico Aubele next Tuesday the 30th.
