7-Year-Old Girl Who Was Shot In Head Dies

Congress has cut federal funding for public media — a $3.4 million loss for LAist. We count on readers like you to protect our nonprofit newsroom. Become a monthly member and sustain local journalism.

A sad ending to the shooting of a 7-year-old in Palmdale; Desiree Macias, who had been declared brain dead after being shot in the head, has died, ABC 7 reports.

The shooting occurred on Wednesday after the girl's father got into an altercation at a Mobil gas station with the suspects, who pursued the family and fired shots. One hit Desiree, who was seated in the backseat.

Three men have been arrested but Fox 11 reports that police are still looking for two more men involved. It's not known whether the Macias family knew the men or had a previous history with them. It's reported that the father maced one of the suspects, then fled, which led to the fatal shooting.

Fox 11 reports that Desiree is being kept on life support since the family has decided to donate her organs.
