  • It all started with talk of Posh & Becks moving to Los Angeles. Then it was about Posh and the Spice Girls and their horrible videos. The conversation turned to boy bands of the same era (give or take) and their horrendous videos that often seemed sexually, well, questionable. LAist has now officially laughed ourselves silly watching these old videos and have to share them with you. They have a certain, "this can't possibly...

  • Here I was just looking for new music to listen to and googling old high school boyfriends. A good friend of mine recently started working at a new media company whose main gig is gaming and podcasting. Basically she's surrounded all day by lovable computer nerds, guys listening to metal and most of them, well, talking about chicks. We think this song should go on their homepage. Catchy little jingle....
  • One of my New Year's Resolutions was to make all social gatherings "good" and have a socially conscious aspect to them. And why not? If people are going to get together for a party, birthday, brunch, networking -- it seems easy and fun to try to incorporate a certain "give back" quality. And I know, fun can be described as different things to different people, but for this do-gooder, well, I just couldn't resist....
  • So Mr. Editor wasn't in the mood to be on this rock spanking internet show-thing, but yours truly took the bait. The DL on AOL. See you think it stands for down low -- but it stands for downloaded. The internet can be clever and quick on its toes that way. Ah, that AOL. Their music channel is called Spinner and the DL is one of five links they have to different music reviews...
  • Superbowl Commercials have become a game unto themselves and the hype can officially start since Yahoo! has teamed up with Doritos to run a contest in which site visitors can vote for their favorite consumer-made Doritos video. Cast your vote HERE. The contest runs until January 19, 2007 and the top five finalists have already received a prize of $10,000 and a trip to Miami (not to SEE the game mind you) but watch...
  • Australia Week is a celebration of all the great things about Australia including food, wine, film, arts, lifestyle and culture and it's returning to Los Angeles from January 10-15. Started in LA in 2004, G'day USA has events going on all over town where you can get into the "down under" mind set or just inhale all of the accents, turn on the charm and see what happens. Join us Wednesday night for the...
  • Ian Blackburn founded LearnAboutWine in 1995. LearnAboutWine has a list of unique classes, events and tours that remain on the cutting edge of the industry and Ian was gracious enough to give LAist some of his top 10s for 2006 including his favorites restaurants, regions and bottles of wine and also wine stores. For more information about Learn About Wine or any of their classes or programs, email Ian here. 10 Best Restaurants to...
  • I think this should be part of new regulations on sobriety tests. Counting down from 60. Because apparently it can be difficult, like standing on one leg and saying the alphabet backwards. But on the other hand, who the hell counts down from 60? For New Year's Eve? I might not remember every single countdown I've ever been to, but I'm pretty sure they all started at 10. Which makes more sense today than...
  • LAist's heart is in LA, but some of us are travelling to visit family. To places where R&B and country stations prevail. And it is in the vein that I happened upon hearing Jeff Foxworthy's 12 Days of Christmas on the radio today. God I miss LA....
