The concept for Reunion is refreshing, but not as ground-breaking as the show's website suggests. It chronicles the lives of six friends over the course of 20 years. Each 60-minute episode encapsulates one year (think 24, but with more of a tesseract). The big twist? One of the friends will be murdered. So, the series is a 20-part whodunit. Each episode will, presumably, lead to a generous payoff next spring. After a brief opening...

Princess Sparkle, Captain Oats, Julie Cooper-Nichol and the reliable Seth/Summer banter. These are but a few of the carrots that proverbially lure us to watch the O.C. every year. The smart dialogue and over-the-top acting make it one of the best soaps since 90210 or Melrose... even if true Angelenos know Orange County looks nothing like this. After a long, hot summer of scripted "reality" shows, we were more than ready for our favorite...

Oprah Winfrey closed her broadcast today with a plea for everybody to stop calling Katrina survivors "refugees." She reminded us, "They are Americans." While this may be a bit of a technicality to many people, we get her drift. She's trying to humanize and personalize this disaster, so more people can relate. Looking at the photos, it seems like this is in a third world country. Sadly it's here. That's the point. LAist shed...

For everyone that couldn't make it to ArthurFest, fear not! We've assembled a list of up-and-coming acts and rarities to keep you in the know. Sample them and let us know what you think. ONE Remote | Bird's Eye View | Los Angeles-based. Per our earlier review, this band calls upon a myriad of influences, with Radiohead being the most apparent. NBC has taken considerable flack for its censorship of Grammy award-winning R&B star Kanye West on "A Concert for Hurricane Relief." Specifically, NBC deleted the following statement from the musician during the West Coast feed: "George Bush doesn't care about black people." Ironically, by censoring it, NBC only brought more attention to the statement, and the network itself. Most telethons are paint-by-numbers affairs -- orchestrated and planned methodically. Thus, we understand the organizers' uneasiness....

The media coverage of Katrina permeated our hearts and minds this week. Angelenos are just as horrified as the rest of the US at the devastation, suffering and lethargic relief efforts. After being pummeled all week, it was extremely uplifting to see one Angeleno doing her small part. Jo, a hard-working waitress, is making a difference... one tip at a time. She's explained that she's on a tight budget, so this was the best way...

Chocolate mousse, rocky road ice cream and apple pie à la mode are all delicious. Unfortunately, they're off limits to Vegans. That doesn't mean veggie-lovers are left out in the culinary cold. Thankfully, California serves up some of the best Vegan desserts in the continental United States. Health-conscious Angelenos will try just about anything to fit into board shorts and bikinis. From carrot juice to chickenless buffalo wings, restaurants can afford to serve up...
