Five years after losing her right hand in a traffic accident, a 26-year-old woman has received a first hand transplant at Ronald Regan UCLA Medical Center's new hand transplant center, according to the United Press International, or UPI. The procedure was the first at UCLA's new center, and, the LA Times reports, the 13th in the U.S. According to UPI, the 14-hour surgery was conducted by Dr. Kodi Azari, surgical director of UCLA's hand transplant program.

Tomorrow's West Hollywood election is fixin' to be a showdown. The LA Independent reports that the challengers to the West Hollywood City Council seats have accused West Hollywood's mayor, John Heilman, of misusing city funds. According to the paper: The candidates — Scott Schmidt, John D'Amico, Steve Martin, Mito Aviles and Lucas John — and community organizer Ed Buck, said in a statement that Heilman should return "tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars wasted on high- end meals and luxurious gifts for City Hall staff, developers and lobbyists.''

Lock up your daughters! It appears as though underage partygoers at last year's Electric Daisy Carnival rave -- which has since been relocated to Las Vegas -- were consuming alcoholic beverages. The LA Times reports that the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, which hosted the rave last year, is being accused by the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control of allowing alcohol sales outside designated areas, and allowing minors to drink.

A leader of the highly controversial Westboro Baptist Church, which is known for picketing funerals of deceased military personnel with anti-gay and anti-military messages, will retain his right to carry out these kinds of demonstrations, per a decision handed down today by the U.S. Supreme Court. In the 8-1 decision, Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the following, according to the LA Times:

Skinhead David Lynch was found shot to death in his Sacramento home yesterday, according to KTLA. Police are looking for the killer, who also shot a woman in the leg before leaving the scene. The motive for the murder is unknown, although KTLA reports that there have been internal conflicts in the white supremacist world as of late.
