After suffering an irreversible brain injury following a car crash caused by a drunk driver, the organs of Irvine teenager Ashton Sweet have been donated to six people, reports the OC Register. Sweet was injured when she was sitting in the backseat of a car with three other friends, driven by one of their fathers. The car was hit by Irvine resident Austin Jeffrey Farley, 26, as it passed through an intersection and Farley ran a red light.

Two Southern California hospitals have been fined for providing inadequate care, reports KCBS. Twelve California hospitals in total were fined by the state Department of Public Health for various offenses. Included in those twelve were Anaheim Regional Medical Center, and Promise Hospital in East L.A.

When Toronto police officer Michael Sanguinetti told a group of students at Osgoode Hall Law School of York University in January that the women among them should avoid "dressing like sluts" lest they be raped, little did he know that he was about to spark a movement. Outraged by the incident -- and others like it -- local activists Heather Jarvis and Sonya Barnett launched SlutWalk, described on its website as a mission to spread the word that "those who experience sexual assault are not the ones at fault, without exception."

Over 64 animals went missing from six shelters over the past year, reports KTLA. The animals, most of which were dogs, were reportedly "highly adoptable," said KTLA. Officials are afraid that they were stolen in order to then be sold. 39 of the animals came from one shelter: North Central animal shelter in Lincoln Heights.

Well, we all saw this coming. Octomom's doctor -- Doctomom, for our purposes -- has had his medical license revoked, effective July 1. KABC reports that Dr. Michael Kamrava, the Beverly Hills physician that implanted 12 embryos into Nadya Suleman via in vitro treatments, was investigated shortly after Suleman gave birth to her eight babies in 2009. The babies were born in addition to six that she already had.

Someone has been targeting the city of Burbank's businesses in a string of robberies. According to the Burbank Police Department, between May 24 and May 29 a number of businesses on South Victory Blvd. were burglarized between the early evening and early morning hours. Doors and windows were forced open, and property was stolen form inside.

State requirements in California dictate that middle and high school kids get 400 minutes of exercise at school per ten days. But even with those requirements in place, public school students aren't exercising -- a UCLA study has found that less than two-thirds of students in public schools participate in physical education classes in school.

Those of us who like our movies recycled will be happy to hear that "The Hangover Part II," the movie which unabashedly rips off the plot, pretty much point by point, of its predecessor "The Hangover" swept the box office this weekend. Bloomberg reports that "The Hangover Part II" raked in $86.5 million, breaking the record for best comedy debut which had been held by "The Simpsons Movie," which brought in $74 million when it opened in 2007.

Local radio personality Diana Nyad, 61, is getting ready to finish something she started 30 years ago: a swim from Cuba to the Florida Keys, reports the Washington Post. Nyad, who hosts sports show "The Score" on KCRW, has been a long-distance endurance athlete for most of her life. In 1978, when she was 29, she attempted to swim the distance between a point on the shore in Cuba all the way to Florida.
