  • In tonight's Extra, Extra, animal rights activists speak up about a lobster game, the Fowler Museum plans a new exhibit, and a guide to growing your own weed. Plus: Keep up with us on Facebook, and follow us on Twitter: @LAist @LAistFood @LAistSports. You can also find us on Pinterest, Storify, Foursquare, and Instagram (laistpics).
  • The four-month-old kitten who stowed himself away in a shipping container in July and make a cross-Pacific voyage, showing up in L.A. near death from dehydration and starvation, has found a new home in Redondo Beach.
  • In other parts of the country (I'm looking at you, New York), there seems to be a gross misunderstanding about the way Angelenos live. The myth goes something like this: We wake up at 11:00 a.m., throw on some oversized sunglasses and head to an audition. Then we leisurely make our way to the gym, where we spend the remainder of the day doing squats.
  • We've all seen those dads who get way too into their kids' sports games and, one feels certain, would fight should the opportunity present itself. But we don't often think that the coach of a kids game would take things to fisticuffs...and yet that's exactly what happened after a soccer game in Simi Valley on Monday.
  • Charles Manson is known for a lot of things. Grotesque violence, for instance. Co-opting young minds. But a lesser known fact is that the criminal mastermind was also a musician. And now, a local record producer has released an album featuring some of Manson's songs.
  • A 34-year-old Rowland Heights man went missing last night after going for a swim at Salt Creek Beach in Dana Point, reports City News Service. The search for the man, whose name hasn't been released, began at about 7:30 p.m. and was called off around 10:00 p.m. when it became too difficult for divers to continue maneuvering in the the water.
  • A 3.2 earthquake mildly disturbed residents of Beverly Hills and West Hollywood this morning, prompting calls to local police because people in Beverly Hills aren't supposed to fall victim to pesky things like nature.
  • Hey everyone, today is Charlie Sheen's birthday! And he's still winning his way through life: his new show "Anger Management" was recently picked up for another 90 episodes, according to On The Red Carpet, and nobody really likes Ashton Kutcher in "Two and a Half Men."
  • We've been tracking the "American Idol" judge saga closely for some time now, as P. Diddy, Snoop Lion and Charlie Sheen have all been considered to replace Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler. But shit is about to get even more intense, because it's now been announced that Randy Jackson is also leaving the show.
  • You know what's a lot more interesting than watching conservative blowhards congratulate themselves on their hard work and make theoretical plans to take over the world? Watching a family of self-proclaimed rednecks adopt pigs, frolic in mud and support one another through thick and thin.
  • A man in South Los Angeles stole a police car early this morning when it was stopped during a robbery investigation, took it for a joy ride, then crashed it into a Starbucks, a light pole and a parked car. The driver lost a leg in the accident.
  • Kris Humphries is denying that he gave a woman he slept with in 2010 herpes, reports TMZ. The woman, Kayla Goldberg, alleges that Humphries knew he had herpes when they did the dirty, but that they did it anyway.
