Make good decisions this Superbowl weekend because the Los Angeles Police Department will on Saturation Patrol and will be conducting DUI/Driver's License Checkpoints around Los Angeles as part of their ongoing campaign to remove dangerous drivers from the roads and educate the public on safety risks of driving under the influence. We have four announcements to share with you:

  • Feb 4: DUI Checkpoint
    Hollywood Boulevard and Gower Street, 8 p.m. - 2 a.m.
  • Feb 5: DUI Checkpoint
    Ventura Boulevard and Tyrone Avenue, 8 p.m. - 2 a.m.
  • Feb 6: Saturation Patrol
    North Hollywood Area, 3 p.m. - 11 p.m.
  • Feb 6: Saturation Patrol
    Van Nuys Area, from 3 p.m. - 11 p.m.

"Sobriety checkpoints are a proven enforcement tool effective in reducing the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol involved crashes, as well as being a valuable means for heightening awareness of the dangers of impaired driving," LAPD say of their checkpoint campaign.

At the checkpoint they will be looking for proper licensing and signs of alcohol and or drug impairments. Officers will conduct field sobriety tests for anyone suspected of being under the influence. They say "if you fail, expect jail," in addition to vehicle storage costs, license suspension, insurance increases, fines, fees, DUI classes and other expenses that can exceed $10,00

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Our only loyalty is to our audiences and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen our community.

Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive from readers like you will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
