Hundreds of UC Students Rally at the State Capital
Students from all UC's packed themselves onto buses to rally at the North steps of the State Capital yesterday, where they demanded a second year of student fee buyouts, the restoration of 2002 K-12 outreach program funding levels, as well as the passage of two major education bills. One bill -- AB 175 -- would update the cost-of-living calculation for Cal Grants. The second -- AB 302 -- would increase aid for eligible first-year students.
Israeli Ambassador to Britain to Speak at UCLA
Israeli ambassador Ron Prossor will speak today about the changing climate of Middle East politics. Using the example of Shiite and Sunni stratification, he will discuss how the radicalization of some religious circles has driven many moderate Muslim states to form an ally with the state of Israel. Prossor is also concerned with how the peace process not only involves conflict between Muslims and Jews, but is even more dynamic because of growing internal conflicts -- like the religious situation in Iraq, as well as growing conflict between Liberal and Orthodox Israeli Jews.
