Jackknifed Vons Truck Halts Traffic On 5 Freeway
An accident Saturday morning involving a large Vons truck on the 5 Freeway prompted authorities to shut down all southbound lanes and one northbound lane at Imperial Highway, reports CBS Local.
The crash reportedly caused the truck to catch on fire scattering debris across all southbound lanes and closing a northbound lane because of guardrail damage, reports CBS Local. The driver reportedly suffered minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital.
According to reports at the scene, the truck struck a 30-foot guardrail on the right shoulder, then jackknifed into the center median and one lane of the northbound freeway.
First accident reports came in at 9:58 a.m. and a Siglalert was issued at 10:08 a.m. At 1:30 p.m., the cleanup effort was held up "because moving the truck would have created a large fuel leak," said CHP officers at the scene, reports CBS Local.
