An Uber driver was shot and killed early Sunday morning while working for the service in Inglewood.

Inglewood Police officers responded to the 3700 block of 109th Street around 4 a.m. after a report that shots were fired in the area. When they arrived at the scene they found a man shot to death inside of a black Nissan. He was later identified as 27-year-old Andre Jamal Bayyan of Los Angeles, according to the L.A. Times.

Witnesses told ABC 7 that Bayyan was backing out of a driveway around the time of the shooting, and backed his car into the chainlink fence of the front yard. Uber confirmed that Bayyan was on a trip for the ridesharing service at the time of the shooting, but did not say whether he was dropping off or picking up passengers.

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of Mr. Bayyan to this senseless act of violence," Uber said in a statement. "Our thoughts and condolences are with his friends, family and loved ones."
