Two Men Lose Their Legs After Driver Plows Into Them At Strip Club
Two men are having their legs amputated Sunday morning after a driver plowed his BMW into them at a strip club. The driver was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and driving under the influence. He may also be charged with a hate crime.
The crash happened around 3:30 am this morning in the parking lot of Sam's Hofbrau strip club in downtown, according to City News Service. The driver plowed into the two men, pinning them against a Mini-Cooper that was shoved "several feet" by the impact before crashing into a building, according to police.
One victims was in his 50s and the other was in his 30s. One man was having both legs amputated above the knees and the second man had his right leg amputated above his knee. Doctors told CBS Los Angeles they would try to reattach the legs in surgery if possible.
The suspect has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and driving drunk. Police told CBS that they are treating the incident as a possible hate crime, because the suspect—described only as an African American man in his 50s—made racially-charged comments to the victims who were described as Hispanic. The suspect and victims began arguing inside the club that night.
The suspect sat slumped in the vehicle after the crash, and he was arrested at the scene.
