Santa Clarita Bus Strike Concludes
Topline:
The bus strike in Santa Clarita has ended, with all routes set to resume today.
What happened: Santa Clarita Transit announced on Sunday that MV Transportation reached a new four-year contract with Teamsters Local 572, which represents drivers, dispatchers, and customer service representatives.
The backstory: Workers had been negotiating for over a year with MV Transportation, before voting to authorize a strike in September. One of the union arguments behind the strike was a lack of fair compensation to transit workers, especially those who worked during the pandemic. Disabled riders, students, service workers, and commuters were also affected by the strike.
What's in the new contract?: The new four-year contract includes significant wage increases, increases to the training premium and health coverage without additional out-of-pocket expenses.
