Topline:

Traveling between the San Fernando Valley and the Westside is about to get a lot slower this weekend. The 405 Freeway through the Sepulveda Pass is down to three lanes in each direction as part of a $147.7 million rehabilitation project.

When is the closure? The work starts at 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.

Where will it get slow? The lane reduction is between Santa Monica Boulevard to Sunset Boulevard on the northbound side of the 405 Freeway. On the southbound side, that closure extends between Sunset Boulevard to Wilshire Boulevard.

What about off and on ramps? Yes, those will also be closed.

  • On the northbound side that will include the Wilshire Boulevard off-ramp, Santa Monica Boulevard on-ramp, Sunset Boulevard on-and-off ramps, Sepulveda Boulevard off-ramp, and Moraga Drive off-ramp.
  • On the southbound side that’ll include the Sunset Boulevard and Church Lane off-and-on ramps. The Westbound Wilshire Boulevard on-ramp will also be closed to drivers.

What to know: Caltrans is urging drivers to avoid the area, and warning that residents and businesses nearby may experience noise, vibrations and dust associated with the construction.

Why now? The work is part of a $143 million Caltrans project to repave portions of the 405 Freeway between Van Nuys and Westwood. The area has seen ongoing closures as part of the project.
