The immediate area around North Hollywood High School has been shut down by the LAPD after a suspicious package was reported to them this morning. At 6:12 a.m., police received a call from LAUSD police officers who found a box with wires coming out of it at the front entrance. No evacuations were needed as school is not in session; however, a graduation is scheduled for later today. Colfax and Weddington were shut down to traffic.

The LAPD Bomb Squad has sent in its robot to check the package. As of 9:05 a.m., there was no confirmation on what the package was.

[Update, 9:41 a.m.: Police called a Code 4, meaning it was nothing.]

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Our only loyalty is to our audiences and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen our community.

Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive from readers like you will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
