Mexican drug cartel has extensive network in Southern California

State Attorney General Jerry Brown Thursday announced the arrest of six men associated with the Mexico-based Sinaloa drug cartel. KPCC’s Frank Stoltze reports the busts happened in Southern California.
Agents with the state’s Bureau of Narcotics Enforcement arrested two men in a Home Depot parking lot in Paramount, in Southeast Los Angeles County. They arrested four more men at a house in the San Bernardino town of Hesperia. State Attorney General Brown says the men had tried to buy 160 pounds of cocaine from undercover agents.
Last week, Brown won indictments against 16 people allegedly associated with the Sinaloa drug cartel. The busts are part of an eight-month investigation into Sinaloa’s operations in California.
Police say the cartel has an extensive network to smuggle drugs from Mexico into California and distribute them across the country. Some law enforcement leaders say they’re increasingly concerned that the violence for which Sinaloa is known in Mexico could spill over into California.
