Person struck, killed on Metrolink San Bernardino County Line tracks near Upland station

A Metrolink train struck and killed a man in the city of Rancho Cucamonga Monday morning, Metrolink spokesman Scott Johnson said. The train struck a man who was walking on the tracks, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

Service was interrupted for a few hours on Metrolink's westbound San Bernardino County Line as authorities investigated the death.

At about 4:30 a.m., Metrolink train 301 killed someone between Baker and Grove avenues in Rancho Cucamonga. The train started in San Bernardino and was on its way to Los Angeles. The incident occurred between the Rancho Cucamonga and Upland stations, as the train traveled westbound just before it reached Upland station.

There were 194 passengers on the train, and Metrolink offered them bus service to L.A.'s Union Station.

The train was supposed to arrive at 5:30 a.m. At 7:30 a.m, train 301 was released from scene of the accident and began making its way towards downtown Los Angeles, but service on the westbound train route remained interrupted for another hour.

By 8:30 a.m., the tracks reopened, and Metrolink spokesman Johnson said service would return to normal. He expected the 9:02 a.m. train leaving L.A. Union Station for San Bernardino and the 9:40 a.m. train leaving San Bernardino for Los Angeles to depart on time.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department is investigating the incident. The name of the man is not being released pending further investigation and the notification of his family.
