The new Tom Bradley International Terminal at Los Angeles International Airport officially opens to the public Wednesday. The $1.9 billion renovation project features 18 new gates and at least 60 shops and restaurants – some of which are already being used for airport operations.
Nine of the 18 new boarding gates will accommodate larger, new-generation aircraft such as the Airbus 380 and Boeing 747-8. Some of the new gates opened a few months ago.
The 150,000 square-foot space dubbed – “Antonio Villaraigosa Pavilion” for the former mayor of Los Angeles – features L.A. based eateries. Some stores may open later than the grand opening of the hall.

There’s a new children’s play area and techies will likely appreciate the electrical sockets and USB ports for powering up electronic devices at the gate before boarding an aircraft to a far away land.
This is only Phase I.
Phase II of the project includes demolition of the gates on the east side of the terminal, new bridges to board aircrafts and secure corridors for passengers to travel between Terminal 3 – the international terminal – and Terminal 4 next door. The second phase is scheduled to be completed in early 2015.
LAX officials say the project's creating about 4,000 construction-related jobs and nearly 2,000 permanent concession jobs.
Mayor Eric Garcetti and city transportation leaders will participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at a grand opening ceremony Wednesday at LAX.
