Henry Rollins: A Love Letter To Ann Coulter
I am not going to mention Ann Coulter's visit to LA this week or the location. To be honest, I am at a loss for words with THAT woman. I mean does someone ever anger you so much that your nose just twitches and your head shakes side-to-side like a horse swatting a fly and shivers are sent through your whole body? Yup, that pretty much sums up Ann for me. I went to school in Vermont after all, MY professor was the first in the state to have a civil union. I volunteered at a Holocaust museum one summer and went on a trip to Israel through Birthright. I guess I ought to work towards being more "perfected."
But I will ask this question. What does her rhetoric do for our nation? What happens when free speech includes her most incendiary type of pop-hatred towards others using religious texts and interpretations as "fact?"
So thank you Henry Rollins! THANK YOU! My love letter to you is on its way. I agree with you in a way that makes my lips curl up and smile. Yes, how simple! We've known all along but certainly no one else can say it quite like you. "Shut the fuck up, Ann Coulter!" How simple. How divine.
For those going to see her - for better or worse - you're in for a circus-spectacular. I can't make it, my uhm cat, is getting her front toe-nails removed and I have to be there for support, but will you take my little note for her with you. Rolled up and snuck into your palm. Open it slowly, there you go, "Shut the fuck up Ann Coulter!"
Ah, doesn't that feel better?
As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.
Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.
We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.
No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.
Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.
Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
