For many, the iconic, space-age Encounter restaurant at LAX is the most memorable site at the airport. Even though the Tom Bradley International Terminal has recently gotten a makeover, The Encounter closed in December.
The restaurant's operator’s lease ended, leaving the theme building in the center of the terminals vacant.
The Encounter was built in 1961, but has been operated by Delaware North since 1997.
Inside SoCalwas able to get some information form the airport:
”Delaware North Corporation, operator of the Encounter Restaurant, notified us several weeks ago that they decided not to continue operation of the restaurant. We are discussing operating concepts and options with several other concessionaires.”
Hopefully it'll be someone worthy. They did a bang up job with the curation of restaurants and bars at Tom Bradley, so hopefully this will follow suit.
