Hot Dogs, Peanuts And … Octopus? A New Food Item Is Now Offered At Dodger Stadium

Dodger slugger Shohei Ohtani is influencing on the field — and off. The Japanese snack takoyaki — fried octopus balls — is now being sold as a concession item at the stadium as part of a deal with the Japanese national chain Tsukiji Gindaco.
The fritters are filled with chunky bits of sliced octopus tentacles, tempura, and pickled ginger. However, the version at Dodger Stadium has received an L.A. makeover, with toppings that include guacamole, salsa, cheese, and the traditional glaze.
(While non-traditional toppings might sound odd to some, I’d argue that in Los Angeles, such cultural mashups are our bread and butter — or flour tortilla and butter, a popular snack in Mexican households.)
By the way, be careful — Takoyaki is served piping hot, so don't burn your mouth.
Dodger Stadium is only the fourth U.S. location for the popular Japanese chain, which has other locations in Gardena, Torrance, and Santa Monica. (Check out our Cheap Fast Eats series, where we wrote about the Gardena location at Tokyo Central Market.)
Other items in the lineup include Tiger Milk boba drink, a birria burger, Korean fried chicken buckets, and carne asada tortas.
At LAist, we believe in journalism without censorship and the right of a free press to speak truth to those in power. Our hard-hitting watchdog reporting on local government, climate, and the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis is trustworthy, independent and freely accessible to everyone thanks to the support of readers like you.
But the game has changed: Congress voted to eliminate funding for public media across the country. Here at LAist that means a loss of $1.7 million in our budget every year. We want to assure you that despite growing threats to free press and free speech, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust. Speaking frankly, the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news in our community.
We’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else. Become a monthly member today to help sustain this mission.
Thank you for your generous support and belief in the value of independent news.
