Eat a Donut Ice Cream Sammy in Honor of National Donut Day

Truth matters. Community matters. Your support makes both possible. LAist is one of the few places where news remains independent and free from political and corporate influence. Stand up for truth and for LAist. Make your year-end tax-deductible gift now.

We've already told you about our favorite donuts in L.A., and even organized an event around eating them all in a 24 hour time period. So on this National Donut Day, we're going to highlight just one single donut that will make you swoon.

No, it's not a cronut. (Sorry, the ones we Tweeted about at Cook's County won't be available. Ever. Pastry chef Roxana Jullapat thinks it's a big ol' waste of time. She did an expert job at recreating the croissant/donut hybrids, but we have to agree with her when she said that it all just seemed to be "too much.") Rather, the crave-worthy donut du jour is the ice cream sandwich at CoolHaus in Culver City. The sandwich is a collaboration between Donut Snob, also one of our faves, and the food-truck/ice cream shop. It's made from a halved Madagascar vanilla glazed donut that's stuffed with a scoop of your choice of ice cream. (They suggest coffee.) It's $5 and will only be available today.

Get 'em while they're cold.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Our only loyalty is to our audiences and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen our community.

Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive before year-end will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
