Downward Dining: Yoga For Foodies at Studio 1342

Truth matters. Community matters. Your support makes both possible. LAist is one of the few places where news remains independent and free from political and corporate influence. Stand up for truth and for LAist. Make your year-end tax-deductible gift now.

Here's a new way to get your om on: A pop-up yoga/foodie event called Downward Dining will be having it's second gathering this Saturday at Studio 1342. The hour-long, all-levels class will be taught by Lululemon Ambassador and YogaWorks-trained instructor Clio Manuelian, and will be followed by an appropriately-healthy vegetarian meal catered by Clean Plates.

Downward Dining sold out its first event earlier this Spring at Siren Studios. The Friday night pop-up, which was catered by M Cafe, drew in a packed studio of yogis that practiced to an upbeat soundtrack that ranged from the Rolling Stones to Skrillex. (Dub step and downward dog: Who knew?)

Jessie Rubin, the event's creator, is trying to bring the community together with these hybrid health and wellness events.

"It's a constant goal and dream to create events I want to go to myself -- ones that are enriching, about community, places where you can leave with a new friend and feeling slightly uplifted," says Rubin. "And as an avid yoga practitioner, I figured I'd found something I was passionate enough about to bring others together for."

Downward Dining will take place this Saturday, June 16 from 11:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Tickets are $35, and you can get them here. The swag bags from the last event -- filled with all sorts of edible treats, yoga gear, and beauty products -- were worth that much alone. And to that we say "namaste."

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Our only loyalty is to our audiences and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen our community.

Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive before year-end will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
