Weekend Movie Guide: See Scott Pilgrim!
How odd that the weekend of August 13th would turn out to be the most intriguing one of the summer. Many of you will probably not see Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and that would be a huge mistake. I blame Universal for its lack of buzz because -- trust me -- the movie is so much better than the trailers show. Even if you have never picked up a comic book or played a video game, you will enjoy this sweet, fantastical film. The so-called "guy" movie this weekend is The Expendables. Eh, I'll wait until it goes into heavy rotation on TNT.
If an actress like Rachel Weisz were the star of Eat, Pray, Love, I would almost certainly check it out. The presence of Julia Roberts, though, is toxic. I will never understand her fan base. Not even a little. I have a soft spot for epic animated tales (see this, this and this), so Tales from Earthsea is a no-brainer. Sure, it's only junior Miyazaki but it's still Miyazaki, right? The best film that no one will see this weekend? The brutal Animal Kingdom. This Aussie crime flick is getting rave reviews -- 93% positive on Rotten Tomatoes! Find it. See it.
