Weekend Movie Guide: Meh?

We need to hear from you.
Today, put a dollar value on the trustworthy reporting you rely on all year long. The local news you read here every day is crafted for you, but right now, we need your help to keep it going. In these uncertain times, your support is even more important. We can't hold those in power accountable and uplift voices from the community without your partnership. Thank you.

Some may find Russell Crowe surly and rude, but I think he's a rock-solid actor who always delivers (Bud White deserves induction into the pantheon alongside Michael, Antonio, Carmine, Jack, Giles and Tom ). That said, I'm a bit skittish about Robin Hood. How do I put it? Maybe like this: is anyone really excited to see it? Amanda Seyfried is probably the most weirdly hot actress on the planet, but even that won't be enough to drag me to Letters to Juliet. God, I hope this isn't Vanessa Redgrave's theatrical swan song. Bring your hankies.

The malady that bedevils most sports-themed movies is that the actual playing of the sport always looks phony and amateurish. Just Wright gets around that partially by casting a coterie of real NBA stars. I'm just not buying Common as any sort of basketball player, though. Bring back Jesus Shuttlesworth! Q'orianka Kilcher was wonderful in The New World (a seriously underrated film). She alone will get me into the theater to see Princess Kaiulani, a story of Hawaii's struggle for independence against America's colonial aspirations.
