Warpaint @ the Sky Bar for Mondrian Sessions 10/15/10
While the parking is always unsettling on the Sunset Strip, there's no bias here against a band playing amidst the backdrop of a beautiful hotel pool, like Warpaint did at the Mondrian's Sky Bar last Friday night for iAMSOUND's free "Mondrian Sessions". (Well, except maybe the incredibly pricey drinks served in plastic glasses and the fact that they automatically run all cards for $150, not to be credited back for 24 hours. Note to self: Do NOT use debit card in the future).
A mix between the hipster and the high brow, the crowd was polite and mellow, if slightly less demonstrative in their dancing than usual for this band. Which was fine, seeing as how the attendees were doing their best to coordinate attentive listening and drinking with not falling in the pool. The band went through an awkwardly packed sound check before a brief break, then launched into their dreamy rock, the dim lights of the surrounding hotel making for an intimate, outdoorsy feel.
