These 18 GIFs Of Venice Beach In The 1980s Are Totally Rad

Congress has cut federal funding for public media — a $3.4 million loss for LAist. We count on readers like you to protect our nonprofit newsroom. Become a monthly member and sustain local journalism.

Strap on your roller skates and bust out your short-shorts, it's time to hit Venice Beach circa 1984.

We stumbled upon some sweet GIFs taken from the 1984 coming-of-age comedy Hot Moves that capture some totally rad shots of Venice Beach in the 80s. The mostly-forgotten movie is about a bunch of teenagers trying to lose their virginity as they cluelessly stumble around Venice. It's basically a precursor to American Pie and nowhere near as memorable as Porky's or Fast Times at Ridgemont High. So, while we can't necessarily endorse it as a quality film, they did manage to capture some pretty awesome scenes from Venice Beach.

What would Venice in the 80s be without some sweet rollerskating moves?

And, of course, there has to be some choice breakdancing moves:

We're also big fans of this guy sporting plenty of flair and rollerskating with his dog:

They even headed down to the Santa Monica Pier to catch these guys popping wheelies.
