The original Heathers

Whether you want it not, your favorite movie will one day become a serialized television show repackaged for a generation that probably won't appreciate it or, you know, "get it." At least not like you did. The 1988 movie Heathers is a very quotable, of-its-era, cult classic with mainstream appeal. If you like it, you'll love it, and if you love it, you've probably seen it more times than you can count on one hand by now.

And now a new version of it is is coming to TV Land.

We knew that, but it's really real now because an OG Heather has been Instagrammed in her new role on the series. Shannen Doherty—who is very openly battling breast cancer right now—will play "a pivotal unnamed character in the pilot," according to Deadline.

The show will be set in the present day, with a new Veronica, and a whole new group of Heathers; according to Yahoo, "the anthology component will be similar to FX’s Fargo." The show is currently being filmed around Los Angeles, and was written by Jason Micallef (Butter) and the pilot is directed by Leslye Headland (Sleeping With Other People).

Here's Doherty's IG pic, which she captioned: "Sneak peek from the Heathers set..... jealous much?" Also, note the red scrunchie...

The original movie also starred Winona Ryder and Christian Slater, who are not attached to the new series.
