This Amazing Bootleg DVD Cover Of 'True Detective' Promises A Shoot-Em-Up Story In Las Vegas

Truth matters. Community matters. Your support makes both possible. LAist is one of the few places where news remains independent and free from political and corporate influence. Stand up for truth and for LAist. Make your year-end tax-deductible gift now.

We've seen some amazing bootleg DVD covers in our time, but this True Detective one takes the cake.

And we'd very much like to watch this version of the beloved TV drama, which re-imagines Marty and Rust in a shoot-em-up action flick full of guns and explosions. If a sleepy town in Louisiana didn't tickle your fancy as the backdrop for a crime thriller, then what about this high-octane storyline on the Las Vegas strip, right by the Eiffel Tower of Paris Hotel and the Sphinx by Luxor?

Also, this quote pulled from an obviously bogus Chicago Sun Times review, promises (in perfect Doge-speak) that True Detective is "Amazing perform, full front action." If they're talking about Matthew McConaughey, then count us in!

Jezebel pointed out that on this cover, which was posted by a Redditor, McConaughey's face is superimposed over Brad Pitt's body from Killing Them Softly. Woody Harrelson, though, seems to be squatting lazily with a handgun.

We can only wonder if the Spaghetti Monster will be making an appearance in this bootleg as a mob boss. In the words of Rust, "Time is a flat circle."

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Our only loyalty is to our audiences and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen our community.

Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive before year-end will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
