Potter Eve in LA

Congress has cut federal funding for public media — a $3.4 million loss for LAist. We count on readers like you to protect our nonprofit newsroom. Become a monthly member and sustain local journalism.

Rumour has it that the latest chapter in the Harry Potter saga, "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince," goes on sale Saturday, July 16th.

We wonder if the release date for the new flick "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" was deliberately set to coincide with this most auspicious date. This LAist just realized that the media and hoopla that's developed around Harry Potter perfectly matches the mania depicted in the "Charlie" book and films over the chance to win a golden ticket to visit Willy Wonka's factory.

Speaking of film adaptations, the Aero Theater in Santa Monica is screening all three "Harry Potter" films as part of the book launch.

We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.
